Lee Roy Selmon blends the benefits of a football scholarship within his family with the benefits of community service. First family he is the youngest of the nine children of Lucious the Jessie and Lucious Selmon. They grew up on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. Another reason for his football career was that he is the youngest of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. All three became All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. Over the course of three seasons, Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, he received the third scholarship of his career and was named a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree from the university of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering during his college years. Following graduation Lee Roy relocating to Tampa and spent the next nine years playing with Tampa's Buccaneers. 3 times he was named All-Pro. Lee Roy began his professional career. In 1988, while working as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that The Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as one of the most prominent young men in the country. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was a player, captained his team for the year 1975. In 1993, he became the athletic director's assistant at the University of South Florida. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
