Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Born and raised in the suburbs of Barcelona She is described as an "atypical pop singer" due to her genre-bending music styles. After being captivated by Spanish folk music at age 13years old, she pursued a degree in musicology at Catalonia College of Music while playing at music bars and weddings.She graduated with distinction, thanks to her collaborative cover album with Raul Refree in Los Angeles (2017) as well as the Baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). Combining flamenco, hip hop and pop, the album spawned "Malamente" (single) and "Pienso en tu Mira (single). Billboard awarded her the Rising Star Award, in 2019, for "changing the style of popular songs with her unique flamenco pop". Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Her birthplace was in an ethnically diverse family and is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella who runs a small family business that specializes in metalwork.
